11/12/05. Molly Brown's, Trego, MT
Good to be back at Molly B's... Thanks to all our friends who came out tonight.
10/27/05. Baptist Church TVIA, Eureka, MT
So this wasn't a religious thing, there just happens to be a nice room in the church for people to have a banquet awards dinner thing in. I played mostly instrumental music tonight. Very fine food and it sure is nice to play this type of gig so close to home. Eureka is becoming somewhat cosmopolitan. Actually, the whole downtown is going to be wifi, which is pretty amazing.
10/21/05. WLGC Restaurant, Whitefish, MT
Nice to be back here again, not much to say, I hope to be back here during ski season.
10/13,14/05. Trego and Fortine, MT Schools
My first time ever playing for a school assembly and doing workshops with the kids. I had a really good time. The only negative part was having to wake up so early... I even got to eat school lunch both days. One day they had tater tots. That definitely brought back some memories. The kids were really attentive and eager to participate in the making of music. The reason I was there was because of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which is great, but it's because there is no music teacher there that they try to bring in music once a month. I wish people valued music more in our culture, I find it terribly sad that music and art programs are being cut in so many schools across our nation. So it was nice, at least for these two days, to be a part of putting music back in.
9/30/05. Whitefish Lake Golf Course Restaurant, Whitefish, MT
My first evening doing my solo act here, I've played a few times as a saxophonist with a band. It's actually a really nice gig. You'd kinda expect a golf course restaurant to be a pretty stuffy place, but not here in Whitefish. I hope that as the area grows that that doesn't change too much.
9/3/05. Bumbershoot (Outside Busking), Seattle, WA
I finally brought some musical gear to this great festival to try my hand at busking. Man, it has been a long time since I've played on the street. Reminded me of my street playing days of yore, I kinda miss those days sometimes. For me, playing on the street is like fishing. You never know who you are going to talk to, how much $$$ you'll make, if the cops will hassle you etc. I had fun, though it definitely wasn't the ideal spot, and the right spot is what playing on the street is all about.
8/27/05. Molly Brown's, Trego, MT
What can I say? Yet another fine evening here, towards the end of the evening some other musicians got up to play for a few songs. Linda said to me that we had gotten the perfect sound from our gear, completely glitch-free crystal clear warm sound no problems whatsoever.
8/29/05. Molly Brown's, Trego, MT
Yet another fine time here, nice to be playing outside on the deck.
8/22,23,24/05. Arts in the Park, Kalispell, MT
Our third year doing sound at this art fair in Depot Park. Also my third year of playing each day - a stripped down show, just me and my guitar. The vendors were fighting for power, literally - electricity. There are just a few outlets for the many booths sucking up the juice, and tempers flared occasionally. Human drama, you got to love it.
8/16/05. Enchanted Forest Festival, The Enchanted Forest: Near Fortine, MT
So this was our first year promoting our own festival. There was definitely a little bit of a fight to get it together, but it turned into a really magical evening that we hope to repeat next year. We had our opening act cancel pretty last minute, it rained off and on all day up until our scheduled performance time and last but not least I cut my nose pretty nicely while loading up. I didn't need stitches, thankfully, and hey, my nose has even more character now. When it stopped raining, it stayed nice for the rest of the evening and the music, the now defunct Electric Mudd, was great. We got a lot of great feedback from people and Linda and I had a great time as well, so we are gonna try to do it again next summer.
7/2/05. Dickey Lake Music Festival, Trego, MT
A beautiful evening tonight, sat in and played some saxophone with a blues rock band on a deck right on the water. The fireworks display was pretty impressive, if I had to guess I'd say there was about a grand worth of Chinese sky candy. One of the guys lighting them off jumped in the lake at one point, a good thing to do if you are on fire.
6/14/05. Whitefish Farmer's Market, Whitefish, MT
Whoa - full gale force winds off the starboard bow... batten down the
mizzen. We set up underneath one of those portable white tents and then
the wind and a little rain - mainly wind - hit. We held onto the tent for
45 minutes or so, 3 of us, just holding it, trying to keep it from flying
away. Finally we tied it to a van named Flipper (with a mobile of dolphins
hanging from the rear view mirror) and waited out the storm. One of the
other vendors yelled, "we need to be on a side street" cause everybody was
just holding on to their tents and wares. Kind of a fun time.
6/11/05. Molly Brown's, Trego, MT
A pretty relaxed evening, the rain is making us all crazy, thanks to some
friends for coming out anyway, it made the evening.
5/27/05. Belton Chalet, West Glacier, MT
Quick little gig, always nice to be back down here, dinner at the St Mary
Lodge was great, it always feels like being in a movie set (when the sun
is shining) whenever I'm down in Glacier park - it's soooooo purty....
5/13/05. Wild Plum Station, Dixon, MT
Mellow evening here at the Wild Plum, not much to say, super relaxed evening.
4/19/05. Hosting Open Mic @ The Great Northern, Whitefish, Montana
No entry at this time
3/26/05. Molly Brown's, Trego, MT
This turned into a great night... it felt almost like a full-on urban club
scene, right in Trego, MT. By the second set the place was pretty packed
with a pretty diverse crowd. I'm definitely concerned that this area is
growing a little too much a little too fast, but I have to admit that when
it comes to a music scene it is a good thing that there are more people in
the area.
